Staying in Fortaleza 2022 from July until October. Pay the travel expenses left, evaluate the sabbatical period, and define the next steps.
Fortaleza 2022 July Goals
- put all things I learned together;
- define where I am now and my next steps;
- define a timetable;
- continue health check up;
- organize financial life and adjust investment portfolio;
- start all planned things – get this shit done!
Travel
Sorry, but this post is not a travel post, is about living in my home!
I know my city is a tourist place, and I have plenty of hints about it after living almost 20 years here, but a tourist post about Fortaleza will come some time in the future, I beg your pardon!
Stopping
I guess it was really difficult to stop travelling!
Travelling has a different rhythm of life, moving from one town to another.
I got used to a higher expenses level and staying for short time at home in my town, so it was really hard to stop again in my fixed place.
It took some days to stop.
Inertia
Inertia is something interesting.
It was hard to stop travelling, but also difficult to start my new routine, without travelling, in a normal routine.
It took some days to start.
Starting
Many people agree that a good daily starts with a miracle morning routine.
Since the time I was working from home, I had a timetable with my daily activities. Time to sleep, to wake up, to a miracle morning, meals, healthcare, study, fun, and work.
I included my job hours inside this timetable.
When I felt that I have acquired part of my FIRE goals, I quit my job and retired.
The spare time available after quitting my job was occupied by study and travel.
Now, I have to gather everything I learned during the sabbatical period, put with all my past background (study, work experience, networking, etc.) and define what to do next.
My life in the future is still undefined, but much more defined than before.
It seems that directions will be more clearly to me now.
And these new directions will fill up my new timetable, instead of the sabbatical spare time.
You are not going to understand my timetable meaning, as this make sense just to me, but it is a suggestion if you want to do something similar.
Financial situation
First, I’ve obtained, before I quit my job and retired, part of my financial independence.
Not sufficient to be a perpetual nomad or location independent, but OK for staying in my city following my new routine.
Passive income provided by retirement pension and diversified investment portfolio.
When I was working, I’ve already started few side projects.
My strategy, included in my new timetable, is to divide my day in two parts: one improving these side projects, and another studying and searching for work in I.T. (Information Technology) field (not necessarily a job).
The objective of both are:
- Side projects should, after an initial work, become passive income.
- I.T. work income should increase the investment portfolio to increase the passive income.
If possible, with this increased passive income, define new travel projects.
Vacation, friends and parties
July is a vacation period in Brazil (middle of the year vacations).
Fortaleza is a tourist city, and tourism was strong this month, after 2 years affected by Covid.
Despite the new routine, I’ve had to separate some time to friends that usually come in this month to some parties.
While affecting my routine, it is important to have friends and live the life.
Conclusion
Month finished and things didn’t work out exactly as planned, but that is OK.
As I mentioned, there was this inertial, first to stop travelling mindset, and then starting the new routine.
July is also not the best free distraction month, due to Brazilian vacations.
But, as I said, strategies defined, included in a new timetable, and with a lot of focus, my objectives can be reached.
It doesn’t need to be fast, not urgent, as I have some passive income.
Less pressure then, that is good!
