My trip to Panama 2022 February, departing from Manaus. Obtaining my permanent Visa, carnet and taking my cedula.
Panama 2022 February – Goals
My goals for this trip were:
- take my permanent resident carnet;
- having the carnet, take the cedula (Panamanian ID card);
- update my data in the bank;
- study more about my new country;
- visit again some nice places I’ve been before.
Bella Vista
I usually stay at Bella Vista, in the modern part of the city, as it has almost everything I need.
The first days I was focused to obtain my carnet and cedula, with my lawyer’s help.
The carnet is obtained from immigration service.
The cedula from Tribunal Electoral.
I also went to Punta Pacifica to update my address in the bank.
The rest of the period was reserved to study more about Panama, which is the 2nd country where I can live as a permanent resident, besides Brasil.
Casco Antiguo
This time, I also went to a cheaper hotel close to Estación 5 de Mayo (subway), due to 2 reasons:
- save some money, as the dollar exchange rate was high to Brazilian real;
- stay in a different place, close to Casco Antiguo.
Estación 5 de Mayo is also a bus transport hub for the different parts of Panama City.
There is an excellent rooftop at Casco Antiguo called Tantalo, with good food and drink.
JW Marriot (old Trump Tower)
As an experience (just one day because it is costly), I stayed one night in JW Marriot, the old Trump Tower, a huge sky crapper with 66 levels with a rooftop.
The hotel also has a casino.

Conclusion
Panama is a serious country when regarding Covid, much more than Brazil.
People respect the distance, everybody wear masks and face shield is compulsory in public transport. Well-educated people.
Fortunately, Omicron was decreasing by the time I stayed there.
And unfortunately, one of the places I liked more, all the Red Lion bars have closed.
Not just that, 2 hotels I stayed in the past too: Hyatt and Hard Rock Megapolis.
I could obtain all the documents I needed, which was the travel priority.
From now, I can go freely to Panama any time I want.
The next city in this travel will be Belém, I will just stay few hours in Manaus airport.
