Nomad Journey 2023 is a post for quick updates during 2023 in this my journey to become a digital nomad: dreams, experiences, etc.
I found this interesting New Research Identifies the 5 Types of Digital Nomads, and I identified myself with more of one type here according to my journey.
I identified myself with “armchair nomads are earning money and dream of traveling but haven’t yet hit the road” if I think during the pandemics.
Then, when I partly reached FIRE (Financially Independent, Retire Early), I took a sabbatical period – a few months later, I started this blog, Nomad Fire Life.
I guess at this point I was an “experimental digital nomad – this label applies to folks who have started traveling and working but haven’t yet begun to earn enough to support their nomadic lifestyle”.
I hope not give up now, as they wrote many “experimental digital nomad” do in the research, and reach one of the other nomad types!!
2023 January to March
At the beginning of the year, I went with a friend of mine on a short trip to Canoa Quebrada 2023 January.
Yeah, and after this short trip, in Brazil, we have the Pré-Carnaval (4 party weekends before the Carnival period).
That is an important part of my social life, as I explain below in “Everyday life”.
In 2023 February, many courses in Information Technology appeared to me, and I decided then to take some time to update my knowledge.
2023 March to June
Half of 2023 March, I prepared for a test to be a civil servant in Brazil, but I didn’t pass.
This is not a nomad option, but I like to open many alternatives in case of problem with the main project.
On April 13th, we have the city of Fortaleza anniversary. As I’ve promised to some readers, I wrote Fortaleza 2023 April.

I decided to study a bit of ChatGPT from OpenAI. Many people are developing using their API.
I’ve made again a short trip to Canoa Quebrada 2023 June.
2023 July to September
I was also busy in July helping a friend of mine working at a big party (Fortal 2023) that happens in the city.
I also received some friends from other cities that came exactly to the party.
Panama Visa
Each 2-year period, I have to visit Panama, so this way the government doesn’t suspend my permanent visa.
To avoid last time problems, I decided to come every one and a half years.
As I usually do, I went through Manaus 2023 August-September, and then following to Panama 2023 August-September.
I also published the post Great Resignation Career Transition in 2023 September, with some adjustment to my initial plans defined in 2021 August.
It was a busy month, too, because of one more test to be a civil servant in Brazil.
2023 October to December
I went to Teresina 2023 October to a party (Micarina 2023) with a friend of mine.
As I always do every year, I visited my high school friends in São Paulo 2023 December for a reunion.
This year, I also went to Rio de Janeiro 2023 November.
After I came back, there was still the Christmas in Canoa Quebrada December 2023.
Nomad Journey 2023 – Everyday life
Trying to take care of my body, with a balanced diet and physical activities.
At this time, I prepared this physical activities schedule that I am trying to follow whenever possible:
- water aerobics on Mondays and Wednesdays;
- bodybuilding and swimming on Tuesdays and Fridays;
- Tai Chi on Thursdays;
- walking every day.
Hopefully, it appears that I am obtaining results.
And also my mind, having a social life with many close friends.

We’ve had a great New Year’s Eve Party this year in Fortaleza, a 3-day big party on the beach.
