join the Micarina 2023 party;
meet an old friend;
tourism;
try to keep my exercise routine.

Flights

Teresina and Fortaleza are connected by direct flights by LATAM Airlines, I took one short flight, almost 1-hour flight, very fast.

It is important to say that Teresina Airport is small and, as a consequence, we don’t have many restaurant options.

Hosting

We chose to be at Palácio do Rio Hotel, as it seemed to us a nice hotel, not the cheaper one, but it has been one of the recommended by the Micarina organizers.

I liked the place, very nice hotel, and close to everything I planned, and also, close to the party, a 1 km walking distance.

Obs.: in this kind of party, usually cars cannot get too much close, as streets are blocked.

Weather

Teresina is famous for having really high temperatures.

The day I arrived, it was 37 degrees Celsius.

When I walked almost 1.5 km from the hotel to Teresina Shopping, I felt my blood pressure was low, due to the heat. Not so easy to work out after that…

I also guess my cell phone battery was draining faster than usual, probably due to the heat.

Micarina 2023 party

The main reason, my old friend and I went to Teresina was to participate Micarina 2023 party.

Micarina is a kind of party called generically as micareta, which is a Carnival outside the usual season, and happens in some Brazilian cities.

It is a party like Salvador Carnival, which differs from Rio de Janeiro style, the most known from foreigners.

At this kind of party, we have a big truck with a band above playing, called “Trio Elétrico”, and people with fantasy (usually purchased at a high price) watching the show while following the truck.

Visit nice places

Fortunately, the 3-day party occurs during the night, I guess it should be impossible to party in the Teresina’s high temperatures.

Then, during the day, my friend and I had the time to visit some tourist places.

O Pesqueirinho – a beautiful restaurant located on the banks of the Poty River – the fish called “Surubim” is a typical one from Teresina;

Favorito Comidas Típicas – another restaurant with a traditional local cuisine;
Teresina Shopping and Riverside – well, these are both malls, my friend didn’t like, then I used to go alone, as I don’t mind;
Ponte Estaiada – Mirante – we didn’t have an opportunity to visit this place, unfortunately, it is a viewpoint located on a bridge. I put here a link to Brazilian news about this place.

Going to bars

We stayed in the city longer than the party duration, so we had time to visit some bars in Teresina nightlife.

There is a neighborhood called Fátima that has a plenty of options, with Brazilian music, drink, and food.

Boteco Teresina – nice place to be with a group of friends;
Al Capone Pub – an excellent band called Retro Hits was playing old Brazilian Rock Hits from the 80s;
Velho Jack – this one was not at Fátima, but it was very close to our hotel, I love the Japanese food here.

I tried to plot on this map all the places mentioned in this post.

The only one missing here is O Pesqueirinho.

While it is possible to cover all these places by walking, I don’t recommend, due to the heat during the day and security reasons by night.

Goals conclusion:

join the Micarina 2023 party – we loved the party!
meet an old friend – it was one of the greatest travel I’ve done with him;
visit nice places – OK, but I will come back one day to visit the viewpoint;
going to bars – OK, but there are many more options we didn’t have the chance to visit in 1-week travel;
try to keep my exercise routine – not easy to do due to the high temperatures, I considered my performance acceptable due to the conditions.
